About the MOT Test

The MOT test is an annual inspection that checks whether your vehicle is roadworthy according to criteria specified by the Driver and Vehicle Standard Agency (DVSA).

When to book an MOT?

Vehicles that are not exempt from testing must undergo an MOT on either:
  • The 3rd anniversary of its registration date
  • The anniversary of its last MOT if the vehicle is more than 3 years old
To keep the same renewal date, an MOT can be carried out up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out.

MOT Exemptions

An MOT is not required if your vehicle was built or registered more than 40 years ago and has not been substantially changed within the last 30 years. Significant changes include, for example, replacing the engine, chassis, body or axles. If you are not sure whether your vehicle is exempt or not give us a call and we will be able to advise you.
